Senator Thomas Pressly’s Senate Bill 237 Scheduled for a Vote in Senate TODAY!


BAN OF HEMP DERIVED THC PRODUCTS STATEWIDE

 

After telling the Senate Agriculture Committee that SB 237 Banning hemp derived THC products was a starting point for discussions, Senator Pressly’s bill is now scheduled for a vote on the Senate Floor TODAY! 

 

The Senate Ag Committee met on March 26th, the legislature was off from March 28-31 leaving only three business days to attempt to “negotiate” with Senator Pressly.

 

Senator Pressly’s bill will absolutely destroy the consumable hemp industry in Louisiana, and he knows it.  That means Jobs LostLouisiana Companies out-of-business. Reduced sales tax revenue for both state & local governments.  No more money for Early Childhood Development programs from hemp sales.

 

The Louisiana Hemp Industry is strong, made up mostly of small businesses and entrepreneurs.


·       3,000 licensed businesses in Louisiana at risk

·       Thousands of Workers at risk

·       $33 Million in Loss Sales

·       $3 Million in Loss Sales Tax

·       $1 Million Reduction to Early Childhood Development

 

The Hemp Industry in Louisiana doubled in sales from 2021 to 2022.  In 2023, the industry grew by 150%.  Senator Pressly wants to destroy one of the fastest growing small business industries in Louisiana.

 

Senator Pressly said he would negotiate with industry leaders to find a compromise to his Industry Destroying Legislation. The Industry wants to meet with Senator Pressly. Senator Pressly apparently isn't interested in talking. SB 237 is scheduled for a Senate Vote Today!
